What Is MUFON? We Explain Here
A non-profit group headquartered in the US called the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON). With more than 4,000 members worldwide with chapters and representatives in more than 43 countries and all 50 states, it is one of the largest and oldest organisations of its kind. The group has come under fire for emphasising pseudoscience, and detractors charge that its researchers do not follow the scientific approach.
On May 31, 1969, in Quincy, Illinois, Allen R. Utke, Walter H. Andrus, Jr., John F. Schuessler, and others founded MUFON, Inc. as the Midwest UFO Network. The majority of MUFON’s founding members were connected to the Stover, Missouri-based SKYLOOK newsletter and the old Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin-based Aerial Phenomena Research Organisation (APRO). MUFON was renamed the Mutual UFO Network in 1973 as a result of its international development.
MUFON presently has chapters in every state in the United States and claims to have more than 4,000 members worldwide. Its main office is in Cincinnati, Ohio. Both the MUFON UFO Journal and an annual international conference are published by this organisation. Mutual UFO Network University is an unaccredited online programme that MUFON established in 2015 to educate its members on how to look into UFO reports.
The network teaches volunteers how to gather information, conduct investigations, and come to conclusions based on the evidence. Despite not being paid, investigators are required to pass a background check and a test based on a 265-page guidebook. On its website, MUFON offers a newsroom and a case management tool.
