WhatsApp Messenger is Currently Unavailable
WhatsApp messenger appears to be experiencing a bug, as a number of users are reporting problems sending and receiving texts on the programme. Downdetector, a service that records global outages, has seen a significant increase in the number of people reporting WhatsApp’s outage.
WhatsApp is a freeware, cross-platform centralised instant messaging and voice-over-IP service owned by the American business Meta Platforms.
Downdetector is claiming a significant increase, with approximately 30,000 reports online. Users of WhatsApp are complaining that their messages are not being delivered. Even when the messages are delivered, the app does not display the delivery status.
Most metro cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Lucknow, appear to be hotspots on the Downdetector live outage map. The WhatsApp outage appears to be one of the platform’s longest outages, at least in India.
Users are even complaining about problems with WhatsApp’s calling feature. The app does not progress from the ‘calling’ to the ringing phase. The WhatsApp Status feature is also broken, as users are unable to upload photographs to the instant messaging programme.
The outage appears to be affecting several major WhatsApp markets, including the United Kingdom. On the Downdetector platform, almost 66,000 reports have been confirmed.
Last October, WhatsApp experienced a similar outage. Users of WhatsApp are now taking to Twitter to complain the outage. Given the extent of the outage, this could be one of the worst instances the instant messaging application has ever had.
India is WhatsApp’s largest market in the world, and many businesses rely significantly on the messaging service. The interruption may result in financial losses for both large and small businesses.
WhatsApp Pay, another feature that debuted in India, is experiencing transaction troubles. Users are urged not to conduct any transactions during the downtime.
