Ariana Cheng Added to Lawyers of Colour’s “Hot List” for 2022
Ariana Cheng, an associate in the firm’s litigation practise group, has been named to the annual Lawyers of Colour “Hot List,” Eversheds Sutherland is happy to announce. Early- to mid-career lawyers are honoured who have excelled in their fields of practise in this journal.
A group responsible for selecting the honourees spends months considering nominations while reading bar journals and legal blogs. The committee also hand-picks lawyers who have distinguished careers and have participated in diversity pipeline programmes.
A cross-border disputes lawyer with a concentration on international arbitration and dispute settlement is Ariana. In addition to international arbitration, cross-border disputes, financial services, securities enforcement, professional liability, and commercial litigation, Ariana counsels’ clients on these and other complicated business litigation and dispute resolution issues.
Ariana served as an intern for the Honorable Lawrence Leonard, Magistrate Judge on the “Rocket Docket,” the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, prior to joining Eversheds Sutherland. She took part in a global work shadowing programme in 2018 at the Eversheds Sutherland office in Vilnius, Lithuania.
Ariana served as an appointed member of a DEI task force made up of administrators, faculty, alumni, and students throughout their time in law school. The task force produced a thorough report and made recommendations on best practises for DEI to the Dean.
In addition to their client-centred work, Ariana has taught a course at Georgetown University Law Center called International Commercial Arbitration with a Foreign Sovereign as an unofficial co-instructor. Ariana currently serves on the Board of Directors, the Strategic Planning Committee, and the Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging Committee of the American Civil Liberties Union of Virginia. She also has a busy pro bono practise that focuses on issues involving asylum, racial justice, and international law.
