Pinsent Masons advises NTR group on €370 million refinancing

Multinational law firm Pinsent Masons has advised NTR on the €370 million refinancing of its 220MW onshore wind portfolio.

NTR plc is a leading renewable energy company based in Dublin and has transacted more than €3 billion of sustainable infrastructure investments in wind, solar, bioenergy, water treatment, energy storage and recycling over the past 15 years.

The transaction concerned the group’s NTR Wind 1 LP fund’s portfolio of twelve operational onshore windfarms across the United Kingdom and Ireland and saw the replacement of the individual project financing arrangements with new facilities totalling around €370 million, made available by five lenders.

The Pinsent Masons team acting on the transaction was led by Partner Gillian Frew and Senior Associate Michael Duffy, alongside a multi-discipline, multi-jurisdiction team.

Commenting on the deal Gillian Frew said “Reaching financial close on this transaction demonstrates robustness and resilience in the renewable energy sector during the pandemic and shows that well-structured deals can still be financed on flexible terms. We were delighted to support our long standing clients, NTR, through the process.”

Facebook to add 1000 jobs in Ireland in 2019

American multinational technology conglomerate Facebook is to hire 1000 people in Ireland over the course of 2019. The roles will be created across 60 teams, including the social media giants’ engineering, safety, legal, policy, marketing and sales teams.

The roles will based on its Ballsbridge campus which was previously home to AIB.

Founded in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg with fellow Harvard College students and roommates Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes, its name comes from the face book directories often given to American university students. Membership was initially limited to Harvard students, gradually expanding to other North American universities and, since 2006, anyone over 13 years old.

The announcement was made in Dublin today by the company’s chief operating officer, Sheryl Sandberg, while she attended Facebook’s Gather event in Croke Park.

More than 500 small and medium businesses from Ireland and across the EMEA region attended the event.

Head of Facebook Ireland, Gareth Lambe, admitted today that the company is concerned about the current housing crisis gripping the country.

Lambe has served as the social media company’s head of office for Ireland since May 2015.

However, he says it is not something which has stunted Facebook’s growth, and insists he has faith in how the government is tackling the problem.
