What Is Blogger.com? We Explain Here

Blogger.com was created by Pyra Labs before Google bought them in 2003. The blogs are hosted by Google and are accessible via a blogspot.com subdomain.

A user-owned custom domain can also access blogs by utilising DNS services to point the domain to Google’s servers. A user’s account can have up to 100 blogs or webpages.

Prior to May 1, 2010, Google Blogger also allowed users to publish blogs and webpages through FTP to their own web hosting server. All of these blogs and websites needed to point their own domains at a blogspot.com subdomain or to Google’s servers using DNS.

Despite losing popularity in the United States, Google Blogger has a sizable foreign user base and is accessible in more than 60 languages.

Blogger was introduced by Pyra Labs on August 23, 1999. As one of the earliest specific tools for publishing blogs, it is credited with popularising the format. Google acquired Pyra Labs in February 2003 for an unknown sum. The takeover resulted in the premium features, which Pyra had really charged for but now supplied for free.

Co-founder of Pyra Labs Evan Williams left Google in October 2004. Following Google’s 2004 acquisition of Picasa, Picasa’s photo-sharing service Hello and Blogger were integrated, allowing users to add photographs to their blogs.

Blogger claims that the service is now more reliable because of the quality of the servers. 2010 saw Blogger restructure its website and roll out new templates.

It was claimed that the new post editor was less dependable than its predecessor. Google Blogger will gradually roll out an enhanced web experience in 2020.
