Some of the Most Overlooked Jobs and Why They’re Important
When you find yourself understanding the difference between esquire and attorney, you’ll likely see yourself destroying some of the previous opinions and expectations you had. This is a good thing, as it lets you have a more unbiased view and healthy expectations for people with either title.
However, not all jobs get this treatment. They carry stigmas and are looked down upon no matter what they do. This article aims to change that by explaining what professionals in these careers do and why they’re so important. Hopefully, it will change your view of people in these professions for the better.
Dietitian
Dietitians have to handle an exhausting balancing act for their clients. For most people, it consists of balancing your budget, nutritional needs, likes, dislikes and time to create a list of foods you need to try and eat along with recipes to help you do so.
People with allergies, illnesses, or any other special diet considerations, this act gets much more difficult. Sometimes they oversee the meal needs of entire facilities like nursing homes. You already have to plan and cook meals for at least yourself, and that’s already a struggle.
Dieticians still have to do this for themselves and their families on top of spending all day helping others do the same.
However, without them, hospitals may struggle to feed their patients properly as doctors and nurses already have their hands full, professional athletes would have trouble maintaining the ideal diet, nursing homes may be stuck feeding their residents whatever cheap and filling foods they can find, etc.
You may not see them often, but their influence is felt in so much of your life that you would suffer if the career didn’t exist.
Plumber
Plumbers do a lot more than just fixing leaks, though this is probably the part of their job that you’ve encountered the most often. They also install water-related appliances like water heaters and they sometimes handle systems that transport and store liquid gas, too.
Of course, repairing and maintaining these systems and their piping is also a big part of the job. And, as expected, they can also install or repair fixtures like toilets and bathtubs.
A lot of the repairs to pipe clogs and leaks can be done by anyone both handy and cautious enough, but there are still a lot of tasks that should be left to these professionals.
For example even if you own your home, any and all underground pipe work should be left to a plumber. This means things like sewer line repairs. Burst pipes, gas lines, and water heater replacements are other things that should only be handled by a plumber due to how dangerous they can be when mishandled.
Legal Assistants
While your lawyer is the main person you’ll be dealing with as you handle your case, you shouldn’t forget the legal assistants behind them that help make the work go smoothly.
Your lawyer handles the court proceedings, documents, and negotiations directly; the legal assistants help by doing research, keeping all of the information of your case organized, taking notes and so much more. They’re also invaluable in securing appointments and court dates.
Without legal assistants, every case would take significantly longer than they already do and there’d be many more errors in those invaluable court documents and legal filings. To put it simply, legal assistants handle the smaller, more piddly parts of the legal profession so lawyers and paralegals can focus on the meat and potatoes of you and your case.
That being said, their version of “piddly” ranges from collecting witness testimony to protect your privacy, which are all still pretty important.
Physical Therapist
If you’re lucky, you’ll never need to visit a physical therapist. However, you likely will at some point. Injuries, illnesses and more can all negatively impact your movement and you’ll either need to work on regaining strength in a limb or learn how to move in a different way to prevent further injury.
Sometimes, your physical therapy won’t last very long. If you, say, hurt your shoulder pretty badly in a car accident, you may find yourself in physical therapy to strengthen the muscles again once the injury heals. This could last anywhere from a few weeks to a few months based on how bad it is. If you have arthritis, though, you may be there for a lot longer.
The goal of physical therapists is to improve your quality of life however they can. This can be just as dependent on pain management as it is on range of motion and body strength. They can teach you ways to walk that avoid pain or help you learn stretches and exercises that work your body in ways that naturally ease pain.
It’s easy to see, therefore, why exactly physical therapy is so important for so many people and how their lives would be negatively impacted if it didn’t exist.
Waste Management
Anyone who works in waste management is looked down upon, but none are so easily dismissed as the trash truck drivers. While obviously not everyone in this career drives the trash truck all of the time, this is the label used here to keep it as simple as possible. These are the people who drive the trucks, operate the cranes, or even pick up your trash can by hand to dump it into the truck on your weekly garbage day.
Many also operate recycling trucks or drive more specialized vehicles, like to pick up dumpsters, deal with excess tree limbs or leaves, and carry away unwanted furniture. Without this career, garbage would pile up in your home until you carved time out of your schedule to drive it to the dump or recycling plant yourself, which may take a while based on how busy you are. And that doesn’t even consider what would happen to businesses.
They’d all have to hire their own waste disposal units just to handle the trash they deal with on a daily basis. Trash truck drivers deserve a lot more respect than they are given because our lives would be a lot more disgusting without them.
