Founder and Managing Partner, Cynthia (Jumu) Quarcoo has extensive experience as a Corporate and Finance lawyer in Ghana and the United Kingdom.

Cynthia has over 15 years’ experience representing institutional clients. Cynthia is an experienced corporate/commercial lawyer with finance experience with specialization in the energy, financial and infrastructure sectors. An economics and business graduate, Cynthia’s early career as an Analyst at PriceWaterHouse Coopers has strengthened her ability to provide clients with commercially sound legal advice.

Until recently, Cynthia worked as a Senior Associate in the Banking and Finance Practice of International law firm, Fasken Martineau LLP in London and as a Consultant Senior Lawyer in the International Finance and Corporate department of Radix Legal & Consulting in London where she provided advise on general debt, project, development and asset finance transactions. Her representative experience includes the provision of project finance structuring advice on a $1.5 million joint venture coal to power infrastructure deal, advising the borrower on a $85 million syndicated loan facility and advising the lead arranger on a $400 million syndicated loan for an energy project.

Cynthia has a strong understanding of the African legal and business landscape., including the unique cultural and political challenges across different countries. An expert in advising firms setting up in emerging markets, she has a deep knowledge of international trade and customs law. Her experience ranges from establishing businesses and consultancies, to working with multinational firms conducting cross-border mergers, acquisitions, financing and refinancing. Jonathan Taylor QC

Jonathan is one of the world’s leading sports lawyers, advising nationally and internationally on cutting-edge commercial, regulatory and contentious issues across all major sports.

Jonathan is co-head of our Sport Group, based in London.

He advises a wide range of sports bodies (including international and national governing bodies, public agencies, event organisers, leagues, clubs, and their commercial partners and agents) on commercial matters such as the exploitation of broadcasting and sponsorship rights, contentious matters including challenges to regulatory decisions, commercial disputes, and regulatory and disciplinary issues (including in particular match-sanctioning, match-fixing and doping issues).

Jonathan is an experienced advocate, appearing regularly before the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, as well as a range of internal sports tribunals. In recognition of his skills as an advocate, he was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2017.

In 2016, Jonathan chaired the WADA Independent Observer team that served at the 2016 Rio Olympics, and in December 2016 he was appointed chair of WADA’s Compliance Review Committee.

Jon sits as an arbitrator in sports disputes (as chairman of the International Baseball Federation’s Anti-Doping Panel, under FA Rule K, and as a member of the Panel of Arbitrators of Sport Resolutions), and is also a member of the British Horseracing Authority’s Ethics Committee and the World Anti-Doping Agency’s Working Group on Legal Matters.

Holding both UK and US law degrees, Jonathan originally qualified and practised as a commercial lawyer in New York, before moving back to the UK in 1997, since he has since focused exclusively on advising sports sector clients.

Alongside his practice, Jonathan is co-editor (with Adam Lewis QC) of the leading UK sports law text, Sport: Law and Practice (3rd Edn 2014). He was a tutor at University College, Oxford (Tort Law and Administrative Law) in 1992/93 and Director of Studies in Sports Law at King’s College, London from 2000 to 2007.

Annabel Pennefather

Annabel Pennefather’s legal career spans more than 30 years. Whilst in practice Annabel has specialized in property law and international business transactions, as well as sports law.

Annabel brings to the practice of sports law her experience in a wide range of sporting roles. These include having been a national hockey player, a sport administrator in national and international sport federations and a technical official at the Olympic Games. She has also served as a Vice President of the International Hockey Federation, a Governing Council member of the Singapore Sports Council and as President of the Singapore Hockey Federation.

Annabel is currently a Vice President of the Singapore National Olympic Council, Deputy President of the International Hockey Federation’s Judicial Commission and a Member of the Olympic Council of Asia’s Sports for All Committee. She has served as Chef de Mission for Singapore’s contingents at a number of major multi-sport Games such as the Manchester Commonwealth Games in 2002, the Athens Olympic Games in 2004, the Doha Asian Games in 2006, the New Delhi Commonwealth Games in 2010 and the Myanmar SEA Games in 2013.

Through her involvement with international and national sport governing bodies, Annabel is well acquainted with the legal and commercial issues relating to sport and the sport industry such as international sport governing body regulations and procedures, the commercial exploitation of sport, event planning and management, sponsorships, structuring and administration of professional leagues, athlete contracts, disciplinary processes and the resolution of legal disputes in sport. She has been listed in The International Who’s Who of Sports Lawyers.
