Istanbul is a major city in Turkey that straddles Europe and Asia across the Bosphorus Strait. Its Old City reflects cultural influences of the many empires that once ruled here. In the Sultanahmet district, the open-air, Roman-era Hippodrome was for centuries the site of chariot races, and Egyptian obelisks also remain. The iconic Byzantine Hagia Sophia features a soaring 6th-century dome and rare Christian mosaics.

He completed his legal internship in the office of Prof. Dr. Abuzer Kendigelen who is the Dean of The Faculty of Law of Istanbul University. Afterward, he continued his law career at Antalya Coast Guard Command, Ceynak Logistics Inc. & Samsunport Port Management and head office of AXA InsuranceInc. Most particularly he worked as an expert attorney on subjects as Marine and Land Transportation, Insurance, Logistics and International law cases.

As a speaker, moderator, or organiser, he has attended more than 40 academic panels and seminars related to national and international transportation and insurance at many Universities, Bar Associations, and Institutions.

He participated in the establishment of the Carriage and Logistics Commission of the Istanbul Bar Association and he was assigned as Vice President for a period. He is still giving lectures at the Intern Education Centre of the Istanbul Bar Association.

He had attended as a guest speaker at Boards of Trade and Bar Associations of provinces such as Ankara, İstanbul, İzmir, and Mersin. He participated in many academic studies. In addition to this, he has been awarded from the United Nations, American and Balcanic Countries in order to the international organisations that he led.

His academic papers are published in many newspapers and journals. In the book “TRANSPORTATION AND INSURANCE LAW” published by the Istanbul Bar Association, he wrote an article which is “Carrier’s Liability In The Light of The Court of Appeal Decisions”.

Rohan, managing partner at Rex Legalis, has practiced law in Dubai and India. He has multi- jurisdiction legal experience and has specialised in Maritime and the white collar criminal matters, investigating the forensic aspects of criminal law importantly with the maritime dimension. He has more than 15 years of wide-ranging legal practice in law firms that handle cross-border transactions between organisations in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and the Asian subcontinent. He has a master’s degree from Cardiff University, UK, with specialisation in marine and commercial laws.

Rohan has been working closely with a number of Shipping Companies advising them on all aspects of laws in the United Arab Emirates and India. Rohan has spent more than 10 years as a Legal Consultants with a top tier law firm in Dubai. He has also advised a number of Ship Owners and P & I Clubs on matters relating to cargo claims, sale and purchase of vessels, matters involving collision, stowaways to name a few.

He has been representing and defending ship owners, international carriers and liner operators in criminal cases at the economic offences department, Serious Fraud Investigation Authority and Central Bureau of Investigation, filed by local traders on a pan India Basis. One of his recent instructions were to represent the local owner and crew manager, in a matter involving the death of 4 crew members. He has been actively receiving instructions from international clients with respect to the winding up local companies in the National Company Law Tribunal and National Company Law Appellate Tribunal.

Vivienne M. Gouthro

Vivienne is a corporate and commercial lawyer with extensive experience in chambers. She is chair of the firm’s Maritime and Aviation Practice Group and specialises in ship and international finance, acting primarily for financial institutions and providing legal advice on complex international finance matters and commercial acquisitions and sales. She also assists ship owners with the registration of pleasure yachts and large commercial vessels on the Bahamian Register of Ships.

Vivienne is also a part of the law firm’s Commercial Practice, Real Estate and Development Practice, Private Client and Wealth Management Practice and Intellectual Property Practice Groups and counsels clients in the sale and purchase of real estate and related financing as well as on matters relating to Wills, Probate and Administration of Estates, Intellectual Property and Immigration Law. She acts for some of the major local banks and local hotels and has assisted in the purchase and financing of large developments.

After four years at Higgs & Johnson’s Nassau chambers, Vivienne moved to Freeport to reopen the firm’s offices in Freeport, Grand Bahama. Vivienne Gouthro earned an LL.M. from Queen Mary & Westfield College, University of London and a B.A. in English and Spanish Law from the University of Kent in England and Universidad Complutense in Madrid, Spain. She was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 1993 and completed her pupillage in Gibraltar. In December 1995 she joined Higgs & Johnson’s Nassau office as a Registered Associate. Vivienne was called to the Bahamas Bar in September 2007.
