James Stewart-Smith

Thank you for taking the time to view my profile.

I manage a team in the Charles Stanley Guildford office where I am an Investment/Client relationship Manager. We manage a wide range of discretionary portfolios predominantly for private clients, trusts and pension schemes, many of which have been referred to us by professional advisers.

The Guildford office joined Charles Stanley in 2007, and I have seen our team’s business grow to over £200 million under management, mainly through referrals from existing clients and intermediaries.

Until recently I was on the board of Charles Stanley and ran their Intermediary Sales Team.

I became a member of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investments in 2003, and obtained personally Chartered status in 2011.

The Southern Region of the CISI was set up under my guidance, and I am currently President. Based in Guildford and open to CISI members in the surrounding areas, we plan to grow this group to represent investment management practitioners in the South of England.

I am a Director of the County Club situated in Guildford High Street, which I am pleased to say is a profitable private members club for business men and women in the Guildford area. My responsibilities are organising the charity Golf Day which raised £8,000 and other social aspects of the club.

I am passionate about the Intermediary market place as I see this as the future of attracting new funds under management for private client portfolio managers.

Outside of the office, I shoot rifles at Bisley, play golf, walk the dogs, and Morgan sport cars.

Charles Stanley & Co. Limited:

Charles Stanley & Co. Limited is one of the oldest firms on the London Stock Exchange. Its origins lie in a banking partnership established in Sheffield in January 1792.

The bank prospered, and so did its Stock Exchange investment business. By the 1830’s this had grown to the point where a Director was needed in London to handle it, so Charles Stanley came southwards. As the business grew it became recognised as a separate operation and in 1852 the name Charles Stanley first appeared as an independent member firm of the London Stock Exchange.

Today, Charles Stanley & Co. Limited is one of the leading investment management companies in the UK, dedicated to serving the private investor. In addition we act for many national charities, trusts, professional institutes and major financial institutions. But our principal business remains as it was a century and more ago, the provision of a traditional, high-quality service to the discerning private investor.
