Stuart specialises in corporate finance and management consulting with specific focus on valuations, mergers and acquisitions and business performance optimisation.

Stuart was part of KPMG’s Financial Engineering Group and has also worked for the company as a practice manager in London. On his return he spent 3 years at Bain Africa as a strategy consultant.

Stuart moved to Nolands in 2019. Stuart is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Masters in Finance (UCT) and a MBA from University of Oxford.

John Gosling

John Gosling is based in Walkers’ British Virgin Islands office where he is a partner in the firm’s Global Finance and Corporate Groups. He is also a member of Walkers’ Global Latin America Group.

John advises clients on public and private M&A (including BVI statutory mergers and schemes of arrangement), private equity and joint ventures, IPOs, debt and equity capital raising, restructurings, partnerships, project and acquisition finance. John also has extensive knowledge in general banking, security and regulatory matters. ​

John practised in London for twelve years with Freshfields, Ashurst and Norton Rose. Subsequently, he practised for four years in the Bermuda and Cayman Islands offices of another leading international offshore firm before joining Walkers’ British Virgin Islands office in 2008.

Bernard Beerens

Bernard Beerens is an equity partner in AKD Luxembourg. He is a lawyer since 2002 and a partner with AKD since 2016. Bernard is currently heading AKD’s Luxembourg office and AKD Luxembourg’s corporate practice group.

Before joining AKD, he worked for a major UK-based law firm then at the Luxembourg office of another leading Dutch law firm, advising clients on various corporate and finance transactions. During 2008 and 2009, he headed the Luxembourg desk of the corporate and finance department of the same firm in New York, mainly serving US and Canadian clients on Luxembourg legal matters. After having established his own firm Beerens & Avocats in 2010 and managed the growth and success of his firm for 6 years, Bernard and his team joined AKD in 2016.

Bernard advises multinational clients, including major private equity firms, hedge funds and non-regulated real estate funds, and high net wealth individuals on structuring and financing of international transactions, formation of joint venture and securitization vehicles, corporate organizations and reorganizations, mergers and acquisitions, exit strategies and corporate governance matters.

Bernard resolves complex commercial questions to structure and restructure clients’ businesses. He also provides expert advice on financing activities with a focus on financial, banking, securitization and (re)structuring transactions. He represents lenders and borrowers in all types of financing transactions and advises on collateral arrangements, financial instruments and related transactional documents.

Bernard considers that legal matters demand representation with impeccable credentials, specialized knowledge, a wealth of experience and responsiveness, focused on client service. Bernard focusses on building long-term relationships with his clients by staying true to his commitments and supporting them in the development of their business. Koen V. Vanhaerents

Koen Vanhaerents joined Baker & McKenzie in 1987 and was admitted to the Brussels’ bar in the same year. He was made partner in 1994. Koen has an extensive Mergers & Acquisitions, Private Equity, Securities and Corporate Finance practice. Koen is a member of the Firm’s Global Executive Committee and chairs the Firm’s Regional Council. He leads the Corporate Finance Practice Group in Belgium and is a member of the steering committees of the European Venture Capital Group and the Global Securities Practice Group. Mr. Vanhaerents chaired Baker & McKenzie’s Policy Committee (2005-2008) and has also served as managing partner of the Belgium offices (2000-2009).

Koen advises Belgian and foreign clients on a wide range of corporate finance operations (both public and private) and complex corporate law issues. As head of the Belgian corporate finance practice group, he is closely involved in numerous operations and take-overs on the Belgian capital markets, private equity transactions and mergers and acquisitions. In the context of the financial crisis, he has been involved in a number of rescue operations for Belgian financial institutions since 2008
