As Managing Partner and head of the Divorce and Family Law team at Turcan Connell, Gillian brings extensive experience to the firm. Gillian is accredited as a specialist in Family Law by The Law Society of Scotland with a particular expertise in complex high net worth cases involving professionals, entrepreneurs, farmers, land and estate owners and those in the public domain, who require a highly proactive approach to sensitive and private matters.
Gillian is dual qualified as a solicitor in Scotland, and in England and Wales, and is a Fellow of the International Academy of Family Lawyers. She is frequently instructed in cross border and international cases, particularly so in relation to asset protection, including pre and post nuptial agreements and cohabitation, disputes regarding children, and in respect of jurisdiction for financial claims.
With an MA (Hons) in Italian and English Literature and LLB from the University of Edinburgh, her training and experience was honed with renowned firms including Dundas & Wilson, Loudons WS and from 2001 onwards Turcan Connell.
Gillian has a keen interest in alternative dispute resolution models. She is an interdisciplinary collaborative practitioner, a trained mediator and a family law Arbitrator.
Gillian is a member of the Family Law Association in Scotland and Resolution in England; member and past secretary of Family Law Arbitration Group Scotland (FLAGs); founder member and past secretary of Consensus; fellow of International Academy of Family Lawyers.
Gillian has published various articles on family law, was a contributor to the SIFA Handbook on Working with Matrimonial Lawyers, and co-author of Scottish Chapter in ICLG to Family Law 2019.
