Ali Naeem

Ali Naeem specialises in tax disputes, investigations and litigation. He acts for both corporate and individual clients and frequently advises law firms and other professional firms on contentious tax matters and disputes. Prior to joining CTL, he worked at the MIRA and was directly involved in handling tax disputes and has represented MIRA at Tax Appeal Tribunal and courts on various tax disputes.

Ali holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of London, and Bachelor of International Business from Charles Stuart University of Australia.

Dheena Hussain

Dheena Hussain graduated in Law from the University of Birmingham in 1995 and was called to the Bar by Lincoln’s Inn in 1998. Since then she has obtained a Masters degree in Banking and Finance Law from the University of London.

She has worked on a number of important local and international projects and her current practice draws upon her experience in banking and finance, foreign investment, corporate, commercial and company law as well as in the areas of intellectual property and telecommunications. She has in recent years been instructed by corporate and individual clients, (both local and foreign) in matters involving foreign investments, telecommunications, employment and tourism industry related disputes.

Dheena has served as a member of the Law Commission of the Maldives and has also been a lecturer in criminal law at the Faculty of Sharia and Law of the Maldives College of Higher Education. Her assignments with the government include a posting with the Ministry of Defence and National Security as Legal Officer (1999-2004), with the Maldives Police Service as Senior Legal Officer (2005-2005) and with the Ministry of Defence and National Security as Deputy Director General (2005-2008). She has also worked for the Special Majlis (Constitutional Assembly) as a member of the Drafting Panel which drafted the Constitution of the Maldives which was enacted in 2008.

Dheena has a practicing license to appear before the Supreme Court of the Republic of Maldives.

Husnu Al Suood

For the past two decades, Mr. Husnu Al-Suood has been one of the mainstays of the Maldivian legal environment. With an illustrative career in both public service as well as private practice, Mr Al-Suood in widely regarded as one of the best legal minds of his generation. In the past, he has served in such distinguished capacities as the Chief Judge of the Civil Court of the Maldives and the Attorney General of the Maldives. He has also served as Chairman of the National Law Reform Commission, President of the Clemency Board, Member of the Judicial Services Commission and Member of the Human Rights Commission. He is also founding member of the National Centre for Human Rights and Democracy and the Maldives Law Institute.

Mr Suood was a key member of the Maldivian democratic movement that culminated in the first ever democratic elections held in the country and was for a time an elected Member of Parliament for Addu Constituency of the Special Majlis, which drew up the current Constitution of the Maldives.

He is a well published author and his legal opinions are held in high regard both nationally as well as regionally. Some of his key publications include Maldivian Legal System, Our Rights Our Country, International Human Rights and Understanding Maldivian Company Law (which is used widely by practitioners, students and judges locally).
