Charles Walker Brumskine

Charles W. Brumskine is an internationally-recognized Liberian law expert with more than three decades of law practice in Liberia and the United States. He founded the Brumskine & Associates Law Firm in 1983, and over a period of five years the firm became one of the largest and most renowned law firms in Liberia. In 1999 he relocated to the United States, where he served as Managing Partner of Liberian Law Services in Washington, D.C. until his return to Liberia in 2003.

Following his involvement with Liberian politics at the highest level, Mr. Brumskine has returned to the full-time practice of law, and is currently the Senior Partner of Brumskine & Associates, a group of Liberian law attorneys, with an aggregate of over fifty years of experience in the law. In addition to managing law practices in both Liberia and the United States, Mr. Brumskine has also served as:

– Assistant Professor of Law (lectured on commercial transactions and corporate law); and subsequently, Adjunct Professor of Law (lectured on constitutional and labor law), Louis
– Arthur Grimes School of Law, University of Liberia.
– Director & Administrative Judge, Ministry of Labor, Republic of Liberia.
– Leader (President Pro Tempore) of the Liberian Senate, and Senator, Grand Bassa County.
– Political Party Leader and Presidential Candidate.

Mr. Brumskine brings a unique background to the practice of law. He has the experience of a professor of law, an administrative judge, and a law maker. His experience as a practicing attorney covers a wide range of issues, some of which are:

– Managing negotiations for securing concessions in the mining, logging, and other areas of the natural resource sector; negotiating and drafting joint ventures agreements; advising on strategic investments, and preparing documentation for corporate mergers, acquisitions, and corporate restructurings; conducting documentation review for banking institutions and other business entities; negotiating credit facilities and other financial transactions; engaging in maritime law practice; and, generally providing legal guidance for investors seeking to do, or doing, business in Liberia.
– Providing analyses of the legal and political situation in Liberia, and in member-states of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), to give clients a full understanding of the investment climate in a potential host country, not only from a legal or purely commercial perspective, but also from the broader socio-political framework, which is critical to decision making as to investment choices. Performing due diligence for foreign investors and structuring business transactions.

As a former Senator and Leader of the Liberian Senate and a retired Leader of a Political Party, Mr. Brumskine is able to guide clients through the maze of the relevant government agencies, serving the best interest of our clients within the framework of the various laws and regulations.
