Ben Cooke

Ben Cooke is a Chartered Accountant with more than 30 years’ experience in the financial services sector having commenced his career in Kleinwort Benson’s Private Client Trust Department in 1982.

Apart from a broad career in Private Client firms where Ben worked for both the Offshore Trust Companies of Deloitte and Ernst & Young, Ben has a particular expertise in the area of compensation and benefit planning for private and publicly owned businesses.

Ben gained much of his technical expertise whilst working for both Deloitte and Ernst & Young’s National Tax groups both in the UK and US, where Ben also covered structuring matters for Ultra High Net Worth clients utilising both onshore and offshore Trust and Corporate structures. Ben is a graduate of Leeds University, a Member of the Trust and Estates Planning Institute and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. Ben is a keen sportsman and takes part in various long distance cycling and other sporting events in Europe.

Felicia de Laat

Felicia de Laat is based in our Jersey office. She joined Mourant Ozannes in 2005 from another Jersey law firm where she had been advising on collective investment funds and corporate transactions. Felicia specialises in collective investment funds with a particular focus on private equity and property funds and regularly advises fund promoters, investors, boards, regulators and service providers across a variety of asset classes, and has acted for a number of the firm’s key clients in this area.

Felicia was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland, Australia in January 2000 and as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales in September 2005 (currently non-practising in both jurisdictions).

Kate Andrews

Kate Andrews has over 20 years’ experience in acquisition finance and works on a broad range of finance transactions, including the issuance of high yield bonds, complex acquisition finance structures, fund finance and other banking work. She works closely with lawyers and clients in both London and New York.

Kate joined Carey Olsen in 2013 and became a Jersey advocate in February 2016. She previously worked in London, first with Clifford Chance and then with White & Case before joining Norton Rose. She also completed secondments at two investment banks.

Derek Rhodes

Derek Rhodes was born in Durham. He obtained an honours degree in accounting and econometrics at Manchester University and qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Coopers & Lybrand in Jersey.

Derek worked with Coopers & Lybrand in New Zealand, Australia, the Virgin Islands and Bahrain before joining Alex Picot in 1992 as audit manager and becoming a partner in 1997. At the same time he became a director of Alex Picot Trust Company Ltd and now solely specialises in the formation and administration of companies and trusts.

Derek is a member of Kreston Managing Partners.

In his spare time he indulges his favourite sports, which include golf, tennis and water skiing. Derek is married to Fran and they have three children.
