Yudianta Medio N Simbolon, S.H, MHUM

Founded Simbolon & Partners Law Firm after his departure from one of Indonesia’s fast growing law firm, obtained his law degree from Padjadjaran University, Bandung. He is a holder of a postgraduate degree from the Gadjahmada University, Yogyakarta. Mr. Simbolon is a member of the Indonesian Bar Association and holds a license to practice in Indonesian Courts, Registered Capital Market Legal Consultant, Intellectual Property Consultant and he is also member of several law organizations international.

Before opening Simbolon & Partners, to complete his experiences and expertise, Mr. Simbolon joined the Indonesian Bank Restructuring Agency (IBRA). In this agency, Mr Simbolon has faced various types of legal matters with respect to the bank recapitalizations and asset resolutions. With more than a decade of experiences in the field of laws: general corporate and commercial law, foreign investment law, criminal, civil and commercial litigation, intellectual property litigation, energy and natural resources law, bankruptcy law, land & property law, insurance law, immigration law, banking and finance law, consumer law, labor law, maritime law, capital market law, alternative dispute resolution, debt recovery.

Eric Pratama Santoso

Eric is the Partner leading the Corporate practice at the firm Indrawan Darsyah Santoso (IDS).

Eric regularly acts as Indonesian counsel in a multitude of M&A transactions, representing either side of parties in acquisition transactions, joint ventures as well as being lead counsel in merger and restructuring arrangements. He is mostly known for his skills in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts, entrusted by clients to take the forefront in often challenging and time-pressured transactions. He understands that clients want clear advice – however complex the issues – and that prompt response and direct accessibility are most valued.

With his creditable experience in dealing with cross-border transactions and multiple jurisdictions, he is adept in identifying the issues at hand and offer practical solutions, tailor-made to each client’s unique needs and long-term objectives. Insan Budi Maulana

Prof. Dr. Insan Budi Maulana SH, LLM is an expert in the field of intellectual property, unfair competition, dispute resolution, anti-trust, taxation and corporate matters. He is an advocate, patent attorney, an academician/lecturer in various universities, speaker in various seminar forums, and productive writer of articles and books.

As an advocate since 1986, Insan Budi now is the managing partner of Maulana & Partners Law Firm. He is one of the well-known advocates of Indonesia in Intellectual Property Rights, business competition law and is very experienced in handling IPR related work, such as the protection of trademark, industrial design, copyright and patent, as well as law enforcement to the court process. His clients are mostly from Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Brazil, South Africa, New Zealand, Germany, and many more.

As an IP lawyer and consultant, Insan Budi is a member of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI/Association Internationale pour la Protection de la Propriété Intellectuelle), a member of the Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA), a member of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association (IPBA). In addition, he is also a founder of the Indonesian Intellectual Property Society (IIPS), the Foundation of IP Studies in Indonesia (FIPSI) and the IP Clinic Foundation.

He graduated from the Faculty of Law University of Indonesia in 1986. From September 1988 to March 1992, he received monbusho scholarship from Japan Government to be research student at Faculty of Law of University of Kagawa, Takamatsu, Japan. Then he completed the Lex Legibus Master (LL.M) program from the Faculty of Law of Kobe University, Japan, in 1992. In 1998, he successfully completed his doctoral program from the Faculty of Law Kobe University (Kobe Daigaku). In addition, Insan Budi also received scholarships from the Max Planck Institute, Munich, Germany as guest researcher in the field of intellectual property rights and anti-monopoly in 1994, 1996, and 1997.

Aside from being an advocate and IP Consultant, Insan Budi is also keen to transfer knowledge and experience through education. He is an academician/lecturer at Master of Notary Graduate Program of Faculty of Law University of Indonesia for IP; He gives lecture of Business Law in Master of Accounting Graduate Program of Faculty of Economics and Business University of Indonesia; gives lecture of IP and unfair competition at Faculty of Law University of Krisnadwipayana; Master of Law Graduate Program at Faculty of Law, University of Surabaya; Doctoral Program at Faculty of Law University of Sebelas Maret (UNS) Solo, and also gives lecture at Master of Accounting Graduate Program of Faculty of Economics University of Riau; and IBII Jakarta. Furthermore, in 2007, Insan Budi confirmed as Professor of Law from Faculty of Law University of Krisnadwipayana. Besides in Indonesia, Insan Budi also gives a public lecture at Faculty of Law Doshisha University, Kyoto on September 30, 2013 and at the Faculty of Law Hanyang University, Seoul on December 16, 2013.

He often becomes speaker in various seminars, especially about IPR and business competition law. He is also very active in conveying his ideas and thoughts both in the form of scientific articles published in domestic and foreign journals as well as in book form. Among the approximately 20 published titles are Problematika Bisnis Hak Cipta, Paten, Merek, dan Franchise/Business Matters of Copyright, Patent, Trademark, and Franchise (1993), Undang-Undang HaKI Indonesia/Indonesian Intellectual Property Laws (2004), Lindungi HaKI Sekarang Juga/Protect Intellectual Property Right Now (2005), Politik dan Manajemen Hak Kekayaan Intelektual/Politics and Management of Intellectual Property Rights (2009) , A-B-C Desain Industri: Teori dan Praktek di Indonesia/ABC of Industrial Design: Theory and Practice in Indonesia (2010). In addition, Insan Budi is also one of the contributors to the book Patent Claim, Interpretation, Global Edition 2012/2013/Patent Claim, Interpretation, Global Edition 2012/2013 with Edward E. Manzo as editor-in-chief, and one contributor to Kyōsōhō no Riron to Kadai (Theory of Competition and Problems)/Kyōsōhō no Riron to Kadai (Teori Persaingan dan Masalah) as the commemoration of 70 years Prof. Akira Negishi, Professor of Law Faculty of Law, Kobe University, Japan published by Yuhikaku, Japan, 2013, entitled The Implementation of Antimonopoly Law in Indonesia, First Decade-Thereafter. On March 2018, Insan Budi and Emilie Flohil wrote Perbandingan Singkat Perlindungan Merek di Belanda dan Indonesia/A Brief Comparion of Marks in the Netherlands and Indonesia.

Meggy Parengkuan

Meggy is a Master of Law graduate from the University of Indonesia. In 2001, she joined Grant Thornton, which became Moores Rowland in 2003, as Head of Legal Department. Later she established law firm Mabel and Associates, associated to the Marccus Partners alliance.

Ms Parengkuan majored in corporate and foreign investment laws; she and her team assist foreign investors in establishing and registering legal entities with the various government departments and institutions, including all the other legal aspects usually required within the foreign investment process.

She is also well-versed in property and labour law. A an early stage, Meggy was involved in revising the system for the Indonesian Land and Building tax, as a member of the team which led to the implementation of the new system in 1990.

Junarto Tjahjadi is the Managing Partner of Tjahjadi & Tamara and got his BSc, in accounting from Tarumanagara University, Jakarta, Indonesia in 1987. He is former partner of Ernst & Young and member of Indonesian Institute of Certified Public Accountants. In 2004, he set up his public accounting firm and merged with other firms and become Tjahjadi & Tamara in 2011.
