Dr. Tamás BALÁZS is a partner at BALÁZS & KOVÁTSITS Legal Partnership.

Education:

Law Faculty of JATE Szeged University, 1983-1988; graduated with summa cum laude, 1988; Juris Doctor, admitted to the bar in 1991, member of the Budapest Bar. Postgraduate course on the “American Legal System” at the University of South Carolina, US 1989; special course on the “Legal system of the European Community” at the University of Trier, Germany, 1991; scholarship at “La Sapienza University”, Rome, Italy, 1989, 1990, 1991; course on “International Business and Financial Law” at the Academy of American and International Law, Dallas, US, 1992; courses in legal Russian, Saint-Petersburg 1984 and 1988. Associated professor at the Law Faculty of ELTE Budapest University; has about 40 professional publications, regular member of the Academy of American and International Law of Dallas since 1992; member at the Deutscher Anwaltverein since 1999 (a member of the section of construction law and of the group of international construction law); he has about 40 professional publications. He is a member of the Legal Committee of Hungarian Association of Real Estate Management. He takes part in writing studies and giving lectures in connection with EU-law. He is a member at the Arbitration Court of the Polish Chamber of Commerce (Warsaw). President of Eastern European Lawyers’ association, EAST LEGAL TEAM EEIG (2008-2012).

Kornelia Nagy-Koppany

Kornelia Nagy-Koppany is the managing partner of the Budapest office of KNP LAW. She has represented international companies in the acquisition of Hungarian enterprises, advised investors on significant international transactions in the banking, life sciences and pharmaceutical, insurance, and telecommunication sectors and assisted clients in establishing and successfully operating Hungarian business ventures. Drawing on her U.S. education and work experience, she enjoys working on restructuring and bankruptcy matters and advised the Hungarian government during the preparation of the first free market economy bankruptcy code. She negotiated agreements between the government of the United States of America and Hungary, and has been representing U.S. educational and public entities on Hungarian matters.

Dr. Nagy-Koppany received her J.D., summa cum laude, from Eotvos Lorand University Faculty of Law in Budapest, her Masters of International Comparative Law from Faculté Internationale de Droit Comparé in France, and her LL.M. from New York University School of Law. She recently graduated from an International Business Management program at Georgetown University School of Continuing Studies.

Dr. Nagy-Koppany served as a clerk in the office of the Chief Justice for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York in 1988 and 1989. She has been associated with U.S. law firms since 1989, was the managing partner of the Budapest office of the largest Washington, D.C.-based international law firm from 1996 until 2006, and established KNP LAW in 2007.

Dr. Nagy-Koppany is a member of the Budapest Bar, the District of Columbia Bar, and the International Bar Associations. She regularly participates in the work of the European Committee of the United States Council for International Business, and contributes yearly updates to the Hungary chapter of the American Bar Association’s antitrust manual. In addition to her native Hungarian, her second working language is English.

Ines K Radmilovic

Ines Radmilovic currently serves as co-head of the M&A/corporate practice in Budapest. She is also the chairperson of the European M&A Practice Group Steering Committee, as well as a member of the Global M&A Practice Group Steering Committee. Ms. Radmilovic is part of the Central European Transactions Team group of the Firm’s Global Emerging Markets project.

János Zafír

János Zafír, Head of the firm, born in 1949 and graduated from ELTE University’s Faculty of Law in 1975. Following his graduation hewas working as a company lawyer, later as Head of the Legal Department at one of the biggest international freight forwarding companies in Budapest. He founded his law firm in 1987 with three of his colleagues. Mr. Zafir is a lawyer specialised in international trade; his areas of expertise are International Freight Forwarding Law and International Insurance Law. He has published several books and articles in these fields, was a lecturer at the Institute of Post-graduate Legal Studies as well as at the College of International Management and Business in Budapest.
