Despite the difficulties, there are chances for small-to-medium sized U.S. firms in the Haitian market. Rice, edible offal from poultry, sugar and sweeteners, dairy goods, wheat, vegetable oils, iron and steel, automobiles, electronics, machinery, and refined petroleum are all imported by Haiti. According to Haiti’s Central Bank, the country’s overall imports were worth $4.5 billion. The United States, China, the Netherlands Antilles, and the Dominican Republic are Haiti’s top import partners.

The manufacturing industry in Haiti offers the largest possibilities in the garment sector. According to the U.S. Office of Textiles and Clothing, Haiti is one of the greatest promising markets in the Caribbean thanks to its state-of-the-art industrial park and free zone facilities, which have helped the apparel sector grow significantly with total exports valued at more than $900 million.

U.S. trade figures show that Haiti’s exports to the U.S. market under the HOPE/HELP Act’s provisions climbed by 7.8%. The HOPE/HELP Act preferences account for around two thirds of Haiti’s duty-free textile and apparel exports to the United States, while the Caribbean Basin Trade Partnership Act preferences account for about one third.

Through contract opportunities to American manufacturers and construction companies, Haiti’s emerging sectors include energy, agriculture, and construction. Equipment for power production, packaging and food processing, energy-efficient and intelligent grid systems, and building supplies are all in high demand in Haiti.

The Haitian government hasn’t done much to create alternate energy sources, telecommunications infrastructure, or internet connectivity.

Haiti is a Caribbean country that shares the island of Hispaniola with the Dominican Republic to its east. Though it’s still recovering from a 2010 earthquake, many of Haiti’s landmarks dating to the early 19th century remain intact. These include Citadelle la Ferrière, a mountaintop fortress, and the nearby ruins of Sans-Souci Palace, the baroque former royal home of King Henry I.
