Badrud Doulah

Perhaps the major contribution of Mr. Doulah for Bangladesh legal sector was his achievements at his role of lead local counsel in the Financial Sector Reform Programme under appointment from the World Bank in 1996. The Financial Sector Reform Program was adopted with a view to ensuring the effective role of the financial sector in the economic development of the country through structural and policy change. The project was instrumental in redesigning the banking regulatory platform and regulations of Bangladesh. He also drafted the Bankruptcy Act, 1997 under this project. He was the team leader of the team participating in World Bank’s Corporate Governance Assessment Project 2008 and Impediments to International Integration Project-2007.

He has acted in many international and domestic transactions as well. He has wide experience dealing with infrastructure projects, PPIAF and PPI in Bangladesh e.g. Chittagong Urea Fertilizer Limited, Sylhet Pulp & Paper Mills, Haripur Power Project, Khulna Power Company Limited etc.Mr. Doulah has structured almost fifteen power projects in Bangladesh.  He has acted for ADB, EIB, OPIC, IDA, etc. in various finance matters in Bangladesh. His bank clients include JP Morgan, HSBC, etc.

Mr. Doulah also possesses significant experience in M&A matters acting for clients like Microsoft, AIG, Micrensure, El Paso, AES etc. Mr. DOulah has working in most of the major infrastructure projects in Bangladesh including First Dhaka Elevated Expressway, Jamuna Bridge, Maheshkhali Regasification Terminal, Chittagong Port etc. Mr. Doulah has recently completed master frame documentation for SAARC SDF for the operationalization of two IDA credit windows.

Our History:

We are a Bangladeshi law firm practising in all areas of business and commercial laws since 1965.

Mr. A.B.M. Badrud Doulah, a senior lawyer and holding post-graduate degrees in Laws and Education, founded the firm in 1965 under the name “Doulah & Doulah” with the assistance of his father the Late Mr. M. A. Rahman, who was formerly an Assistant Editor of The Hindustan Times, New Delhi. In 1973 he was joined in partnership by his younger brother Mr. A.B.M. Shamsud Doulah.

Although the firm started as a general civil law firm, it expanded with specialization in the areas of shipping, banking, investment and commercial and general civil law practice. In addition, at present, the firm renders wide range of legal services, including confidential intelligence reports and lobbying.

The firm has several lawyers with varied expertise and experience and associates.
