What Is Vice Media? We Explain Here

An American-Canadian digital media and television corporation is called Vice Media. With 35 locations, it was described as the biggest independent youth media company in the world.

Suroosh Alvi, Shane Smith, and Gavin McInnes co-founded Vice magazine, which was first established in Montreal. Vice evolved primarily into digital media geared toward teens and young adults. In 2001, Vice moved back to New York City.

The Emmy-winning weekly documentary series Vice, which debuted in April 2013, and Vice Media’s newscasts were first aired on HBO. Smith and Alvi, the co-founders of Vice, host segments on international topics along with a changing group of correspondents. They also carried Vice News Tonight, a nightly compilation of international news, technology, the environment, economics, and pop culture that did not use traditional news anchors and made its debut on October 10, 2016. On June 10, 2019, HBO announced the termination of their seven-year agreement with Vice Media as well as the cancellation of the news programme.

Vice Media frequently promotes their “immersionist” style of journalism in an effort to find more compelling and authentic tales. Like David Carr of The New York Times, who reacted angrily during a conversation with Shane Smith in the 2011 documentary Page One: Inside the New York Times, their founders and editors have frequently sparked controversy. Carr claimed that Vice had since developed into a potent news organisation in a 2014 Time article.

TPG Capital, a private equity firm, invested $450 million in Vice in June 2017 to support its continuous foreign development and increased spending on scripted programming. Vice Media’s valuation increased to $5.7 billion as a result of the transaction. Disney wrote down $157 million of its investment in Vice in September 2018.
