An American online newspaper called TechCrunch focuses on high tech and start-up businesses. Michael Arrington and Keith Teare, partners at Archimedes Ventures, created it in June 2005.

AOL bought the business in 2010 for $25 million. Verizon sold the private equity company Apollo Global Management its media assets in 2021, including AOL, Yahoo, and TechCrunch. Apollo then combined these assets into a new company called Yahoo.

TechCrunch is renowned for its news reporting as well as the Disrupt conference, an annual technology event held in numerous cities throughout the United States, Europe, and China.

In accordance with its “global strategy,” Boudless, the parent company of TechCrunch’s Japanese affiliate, closed TechCrunch Japan in May 2022.

Ned Desmond, TechCrunch’s COO, left the company in August 2020 after serving for 8 years. He declared that he would become a senior operating partner at start-up financing firm SOSV in December 2020. He was replaced at TechCrunch by Joey Hinson, head of business operations, and former editor-in-chief Matthew Panzarino.

Every year, TechCrunch sponsors TechCrunch Disrupt in a number of cities throughout the United States and Europe.

The site’s editors and authors came under fire in 2011 for alleged ethical transgressions. These included allegations that Arrington had a conflict of interest due to his investments in certain companies the website had profiled. Arrington later left because of the uproar that followed, and Paul Carr and Sarah Lacy were among the other authors to do the same.

The demographics of an audience can show what audiences make up a site’s current market share. The majority of visitors are between the ages of 25 and 34.

Although the precise number of those impacted is unknown, TechCrunch claimed in May 2021 that the company had 400 employees at the time.
