3 Dangerous Vehicles on the Road… And How to Drive Safely Around Them

For some people simply driving around cars and pedestrians is hard enough but depending on where you live it might be the only challenge that you deal with. However, if you live in a big city, then you might deal with some bigger vehicles that can cause crashes, or at the very least some hair-raising moments as you try to drive around them.

Thankfully, there are plenty of ways to drive around these dangerous vehicles so you and your loved ones in the car can be safe and get to your destination.

Here are some safety tips and vehicles to worry about:

Fire Trucks and Other Emergency Vehicles

Admittedly this is a vehicle that you don’t so much as drive around as you let it drive around you. The old saying goes ‘pull to the right for sirens and lights’ and that goes for all emergency vehicles.

Every single state has its own move over laws that they need to follow, but the safest thing to do is to pull your vehicle to the right lane or shoulder of the road (or the right most lane or shoulder) and allow them to pass you.

Emergency vehicles are often going very fast in order to get to the specific emergency, so getting out of the way of the vehicles in question is the best way to keep yourself and others safe on the road.

Cement Trucks

Cement trucks are bulky and unsteady, and they also have a high centre of gravity that can cause them to tip over even when moving at lower speeds. The drivers tend to move faster on the road to make sure that the wet cement stays wet and doesn’t dry inside of the truck, and the truck also has more blind spots.

In order to keep yourself safe while driving around a cement truck, you need to give them space and keep your distance as you share the road with them. Additionally, learn where the blind spots are on the truck and make sure that you are both seen and communicating your intentions before you make any movements around the cement truck.

However, sometimes all the prep in the world doesn’t prevent an accident from occurring involving you and a cement truck, and if you are involved in such an accident, you need to hire some cement truck accident lawyers to make sure you can get the compensation that you deserve.

Big 18-Wheeler Trucks

Much like cement trucks, big 18-wheeler trucks are just as dangerous on the road, and they also have several blind spots that a car doesn’t have, as well as a load to carry. This means that if they end up losing control due to driver error, negligence, and distracted driving, or due to weather issues on the road, they will swerve, and you will need to avoid a massive truck.

So, in order to safely drive around a big 18-wheeler truck without getting into an accident, you need to once again figure out where the blind spots on the truck are and make sure you are communicating your intentions before moving. If you are seen and have plenty of space, you can drive safely around the truck.

Take Your Time

For nearly every big and dangerous vehicle on the road, you need to make sure that you are giving them some space and making sure that the driver can see you before you suddenly merge with them or pull out to the side or the front of them. That’s the best way to reduce crashes and keep everyone safe.
